Remedial Massage is a very popular therapy. Problematic
areas are identified and worked on to aid in the breakdown
of scar tissue and alleviate muscle spasm. Soft tissue problems
requiring remedial massage are typically caused by injury,
incorrect posture, overuse or repetitive strain.
Remedial massage is advisable when range of movement, pain and muscular dysfunction
exist. Tissues should slide over the top of each other
without adhering or binding as occurs with scar tissue.
In remedial massage, deep massage using transverse strokes
and friction techniques helps to break down fibrous adhesion,
improve blood supply and restore range of movement.
Exercising when injuries are not properly healed exacerbates
rather than strengthens. Likewise areas of tissue affected
by fibrous adhesion (knot of tissues that bind together)
resist contraction and stretching thereby reducing muscle
function and limiting range of movement causing pain.
This type of massage is very good for old injuries that
haven’t properly healed.
